Natural, compostable, and made from British wool — growing better plants while cutting plastic and waste.
Grow greener from the ground up with Wool Pots — the natural alternative to plastic pots. Made from 100% British wool that would otherwise go to waste, these soft, stretchy, biodegradable pots nurture roots, hold moisture, and feed the soil when planted out.
Each pot is breathable, insulating, and completely compostable — breaking down in just a few weeks to enrich your soil with natural nitrogen and keratin, the very same proteins that feed life below ground. Use them for seeds, cuttings, herbs, salads, or bedding plants — they’re beautiful, practical, and brilliantly sustainable.
🌱 Plastic-free and planet-friendly – 100% natural, biodegradable, and made from waste wool that supports British farmers. 💧 Uses up to 30% less water – the wool holds moisture where roots need it most. 🌡 Naturally insulating – keeps soil 3–5°C cooler in hot weather and warmer in spring. 🪱 Feeds your soil – wool decomposes into nutrients and keratin, feeding worms, fungi, and microbes. 🛡 Slug & snail deterrent – the fibrous wool rim protects seedlings naturally. 🌸 Stretchy and versatile – fits plants up to 13 cm diameter, perfect for herbs, salads, veg, and cuttings.
Our Wiggly Wool Pots take something undervalued — surplus British wool — and turn it into something extraordinary for gardeners and the planet.
Plastic plant pots are a huge source of hidden waste, with millions ending up in landfill or incineration every year. Wool pots offer the perfect alternative: fully compostable, beautifully breathable, and good for your soil.
The magic lies in the wool itself. Its natural lanolin content helps retain moisture, so seedlings stay hydrated while reducing water use by around 20–30%. The pots’ gentle insulation keeps roots comfortable in temperature extremes — up to 3–5°C cooler than plastic in summer, and slightly warmer in early spring.
As roots grow, they easily penetrate the wool fibres, reducing transplant shock. When you’re ready to plant out, pop the whole pot in the soil — rim showing — and it will break down in 6–7 weeks, feeding the microbes, worms, and fungi that make your soil thrive.
Each pack contains 10 reusable, stretchy pots (approx. 9 cm, expanding up to 13 cm). Ideal for everything from tomatoes and herbs to peas, lettuces, and flowers.
“I’ve switched completely to wool pots — seedlings grow faster, I use less water, and I haven’t seen a slug on my young lettuces since!” — Verified Wiggly Customer
Fill each pot with seed or multipurpose compost (your own worm compost works brilliantly too).
Sow seeds or plant cuttings and water well.
Grow as usual on a tray or in a greenhouse. Wool retains moisture but allows airflow, keeping roots healthy.
Plant out the whole pot when ready — rim above soil level to deter slugs and help aeration.
Water and mulch — the pot will biodegrade naturally in around six weeks.
Wiggly Tip: Don’t remove the pot before planting — that defeats the purpose! Let nature do the work.
At Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire, we’re all about turning what others see as waste into resources that feed life. We love that these wool pots give British wool — often under-valued or even thrown away — a brilliant new purpose.
They fit perfectly with our ethos: closing loops, cutting plastic, and building living soil. Each pack is tied with yarn and a card label — no plastic, no over-packaging — just a simple, sustainable product that supports farmers and gardeners alike.
Wool is one of nature’s most advanced fibres. Its structure is both hydrophilic and porous, allowing it to absorb up to 30% of its weight in water while still breathing freely. That means it releases moisture gradually to roots and microbes, improving plant health and reducing watering frequency.
As wool decomposes, it adds valuable nitrogen, sulphur, and keratin to the soil — a slow, natural fertiliser that supports beneficial microbes and fungi. Unlike plastic, it leaves behind no residue — just healthier, more balanced soil life.
And that wool rim isn’t just cute — its texture deters slugs and snails naturally, sparing your young plants from chemical deterrents.
Keep it happy:
Store in a cool, dry place before use.
Fill with moist compost, not dry, to kickstart capillary action.
Avoid standing them in water — wool holds plenty of moisture already.
Leave rim above soil when planting out — it helps deter slugs and ensures airflow.
FAQs How long do they last? In a greenhouse or on a shelf, several months. Once planted out, they decompose in around six to seven weeks. Can I reuse them? They’re designed for one cycle — plant and compost them for zero waste. Are they safe for all plants? Yes — ideal for vegetables, herbs, annuals, and perennials. Can I use them for houseplants? Yes — they look great in decorative sleeves or trays indoors.
Wiggly Tips:
Pair with Woolch or compost mulch to create a fully wool-fed bed.
Use them for tomatoes and herbs — they love the moisture balance.
If you’re gifting seedlings, leave them in their wool pots — no repotting needed.
After they’ve broken down, you may still spot a few wool fibres — that’s ongoing soil enrichment!

Brilliant live worms and great service!
I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!
