We’re thrilled to be part of a growing wave of eco-conscious gardening and composting. Huge thanks to Ciar for helping spread the word about sustainable solutions!” For those of you that don't yet know about it - Bokashi is a revolutionary composting method powered by Effective Microorganisms (EM1), a blend of beneficial bacteria, yeasts, and fungi that ferment organic waste in an anaerobic environment. At Lower Blakemere Farm, we harness this science to produce three-tonne batches of Bokashi bran, using EM1 to inoculate a substrate that becomes the perfect medium for fermenting food waste. This large-scale production is carefully managed to ensure the microbes remain active and effective, and the bran is then bagged down for individuals to use at home. By adopting Bokashi, people can transform food scraps into nutrient-rich compost while reducing waste sent to landfill or centralised composting facilities. It's a brilliant, sustainable way to enrich soil, regenerate gardens, and close the loop on organic waste.
