Premium, homegrown, hardwearing lawn seed – sown, grown, cleaned, and packed right here on our Herefordshire farm.
Grow a lawn that’s green, strong, and genuinely British. Our Lower Blakemere Farm Grass Seed is harvested, cleaned, and bagged on our regenerative family farm – so when you sow it, you’re not just creating a beautiful lawn; you’re helping wildlife, locking up carbon, and supporting British farming.
This diploid perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne), variety Agreement, is a premium, hardwearing turf type that produces a fine, rich sward. It’s drought-tolerant, frost-resistant, and thrives in both sun and shade – perfect for family gardens, pets, and lawns that need resilience as well as good looks.
And because it’s homegrown, it hasn’t travelled miles to reach you – less grass-seed miles, fewer emissions, and more goodness for the soil, birds, and bees in between.
🌾 Homegrown quality – produced, cleaned, and packed right here at Lower Blakemere Farm. 🌤 Drought & frost resistant – thrives through British weather extremes. 💪 Hardwearing premium turf – fine-leaf perennial ryegrass variety Agreement gives a strong, lasting sward. 🌱 Easy to plant & low-maintenance – fast germination and simple aftercare for gardeners of all levels. 🐦 Wildlife & soil friendly – grown regeneratively, providing habitat and food for skylarks, hares, and pollinators before harvest. 🌍 Regenerative & low-carbon – the two-year crop sequesters carbon and reduces food miles.
At Lower Blakemere Farm, we don’t just grow crops – we grow life. This grass seed starts as a two-year regenerative crop that provides nesting cover and food for farmland birds and insects. Once mature, it’s harvested, cleaned, and bagged right here on the farm. The by-product, our grass-seed straw, is used to bed and feed our cattle – meaning every part of the process supports a closed, sustainable loop.
Our variety, Agreement, is a late-persistent diploid perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne), chosen for its exceptional balance of hardiness, fine texture, and long life. It produces a dense, rich green sward that stands up to wear, tolerates sun and partial shade, and recovers rapidly after use. Whether you’re repairing patches, establishing a new lawn, or thickening existing grass, this seed delivers reliability, durability, and strong root growth.
It’s also perfect for regenerative gardeners – helping build soil structure, improve infiltration, and encourage microbial activity while capturing carbon naturally.
“The best grass seed we’ve ever used — quick to germinate, lush colour, and knowing it’s grown on the same farm where it supports skylarks and hares makes it even better.” — Verified Wiggly Customer
Prepare the area: Remove weeds, rake to loosen the top 2–3 cm of soil, and level the surface.
Sow evenly: Scatter at around 25–35 g/m² (higher for new lawns, lighter for overseeding).
Press in: Lightly roll or walk over the area to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
Water well: Keep consistently moist until germination (usually 7–14 days depending on temperature).
First cut: When grass reaches 8–10 cm, give a light trim to encourage tillering and thickness.
Maintain: Mow regularly, feed lightly, and overseed annually for a perfect, resilient lawn.
Wiggly Tip: Mix a small amount of seed with fine compost when patching bare spots — it helps anchor the seed and retain moisture.
Every pack of Lower Blakemere Farm Grass Seed is grown, cleaned, and packed here on our family farm in Herefordshire. That means no middlemen, no unnecessary transport, and complete traceability from soil to sack.
When you sow our seed, you’re part of a regenerative story — one where farming, wildlife, and people thrive together. You’ll be sowing a seed that’s already hosted skylarks, hares, and pollinators, and where the leftover straw is put to work improving soil and feeding livestock.
Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) is the backbone of British lawns and sports turf for good reason:
Fast establishment – germinates in 7–14 days at soil temps above 8°C.
Fine-leafed texture – gives an attractive, smooth finish while withstanding wear.
Deep rooting – improves drought resistance and nutrient uptake.
High tillering – quickly thickens into a durable, self-repairing turf.
Cold tolerance – stays green longer into autumn and rebounds quickly after frost.
As part of a regenerative system, it contributes to soil carbon storage and microbial health, improving overall ecosystem resilience.
Keep it thriving:
Sow in spring (March–May) or autumn (August–October) for best results.
Avoid sowing on compacted or water-logged soil — aerate if needed.
Keep consistent moisture during germination.
Mow regularly, cutting no more than a third of the blade height each time.
FAQs Is this grass seed suitable for family gardens and pets? Yes — it’s tough, quick to recover, and resilient under foot traffic. Can I overseed my existing lawn? Absolutely. Just rake lightly and apply at around 20–25 g/m². Will it grow in shade? Yes — the variety Agreement tolerates part shade while thriving in full sun. How long will it last? With proper care, perennial ryegrass forms a lasting turf that stays dense for years. Is it sustainable? Yes — grown regeneratively, with the crop supporting wildlife and soil carbon storage before harvest.
Wiggly Tips:
Overseed each autumn to maintain a thick, healthy sward.
Don’t mow too short — 4–5 cm is ideal for most lawns.
Add a light feed of compost or worm castings each spring for natural nutrition.
Store any leftover seed in a cool, dry place for next season.

Brilliant live worms and great service!
I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!
