A wormery is a living ecosystem of bacteria, fungi and surface-dwelling worms (Eisenia fetida & Dendrobaena veneta). When oxygen, moisture or pH drift out of balance, decomposition slows. Restoring conditions with this kit jump-starts aerobic composting and microbial life.

Healthy worm composting = no smell, fast breakdown, and living humus rich in beneficial microbes.

Wiggly Fact: 500 g of worms can process ≈ 250 g of food waste per day once established.

At Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire we compost daily using the same mixes we sell. The Lime Mix and Worm Treat in this kit are part of our year-round maintenance routine. Every sale supports regenerative farming, wildlife corridors and soil-health research on our real working farm.

Food waste in landfill decomposes anaerobically, releasing methane — 84× more potent than CO₂.
Composting with worms:

  • Cuts methane emissions.
  • Locks carbon into stable humus.
  • Recycles nutrients directly back into your soil.
  • Replaces chemical fertiliser with natural plant feed.

Worm composting is simple climate action right in your kitchen.

Worms Love: Fruit & veg scraps, tea bags (plastic-free), coffee grounds, eggshells, cardboard.
Avoid in Bulk: Citrus, onion, garlic, meat, fish, oily foods.
Ideal Conditions: 15–25 °C, moist but not wet, shaded spot.

Maintenance: Add Lime Mix every 2–3 weeks; Worm Treat fortnightly; replace Moisture Mat every few months.
Wiggly Tips: Fluff compost regularly for airflow; mist if dry; drain leachate weekly; brew worm tea monthly.

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
