Packed on our Herefordshire farm – fresh, plump, and ready to feed (supplied in tubs)

Live Waxworms are a soft, high-fat live food that birds find irresistible — perfect as a rich energy boost in cold snaps, after nesting, or when birds need quick calories.

Key Benefits

  • Soft-bodied live waxworms (Galleria mellonella) — easy to swallow, highly palatable.
  • High in natural fats and oils — rapid energy for cold weather or recovery.
  • Different to mealworms: waxworms = richer “treat”; mealworms = leaner “staple.”
  • Brilliant for robins, wrens, tits, blackbirds and thrushes.
  • Supplied in ventilated tubs — non-viable (no risk of breeding or escapees).
  • Packed fresh on our Herefordshire farm.

Who You’ll Attract
Robins (they go bonkers for them), wrens, blue tits, great tits, blackbirds and song thrushes — waxworms are especially good for small, soft-billed birds and those needing a quick lift.

How to Feed Them

  • Offer a few in a shallow dish or live-food tray with smooth sides.
  • Use as a treat alongside your regular live mealworms or seed.
  • Ideal first thing in the morning (after a cold night) or late afternoon.
  • Place near cover so shyer species (wrens, thrushes) feel safe.

Best Served In
✅ Shallow dish or live-food tray
✅ Low table/ledge near shrubs for quick dashes
🚫 Not suitable for deep tube feeders

Wiggly Tip:
Mix a few waxworms into your live mealworm dish — the richer grubs lure in robins and wrens that might ignore seed.

We pack fresh waxworms in ventilated tubs on our Herefordshire farm and ship quickly so they arrive lively and ready to feed. Tubs make handling simple, tidy, and since they’re non-viable, there’s no risk of breeding in storage.

Sustainability & Packaging

  • Ventilated tubs for welfare and easy feeding (rinse and recycle where facilities exist or repurpose for seed portions/screws/labels).
  • Outer packaging kept minimal and protective.
  • In hot weather we add cooling measures to keep them in top condition.

Wiggly Tip:
Keep the lid on between feeds and store the tub cool, dark and dry — they’ll stay perky longer.

Live foods trigger natural foraging and provide textures birds can’t get from seed. Waxworms, being soft and energy-dense, help birds regain condition fast — ideal after broods have fledged, during moulting, or in harsh weather. Pair with live mealworms for balanced variety: protein + moisture from mealworms, quick calories from waxworms.

Wiggly Tip:
On frosty mornings, offer a tiny handful of waxworms first, then switch to mealworms — you’ll see birds perk up and keep returning.

Storage & Freshness

  • Keep tubs cool, dark, and dry (around 8–10 °C).
  • Open briefly for airflow daily; keep lid secure between feeds.
  • Remove any uneaten pieces (if you add a tiny bit of apple/carrot for moisture, swap regularly).
  • Use within 7–10 days for best results.

Wiggly Tip:
They’re rich — a few go a long way. Use them to entice shy species or for weather “boosts,” and rely on live mealworms for everyday feeding.

Goes Well With

  • Live Mealworms (everyday live feed staple)
  • Softbill Mix (great alongside live foods)
  • British Suet Balls (winter energy)
  • Mealworm Breeding Kit (if you want to raise your own mealworms)

Quick FAQs
Are waxworms the same as mealworms?
No — waxworms are softer and higher in fat; mealworms are leaner and higher in protein/moisture.
Will they turn into moths?
No — these are non-viable and supplied in tubs, so they won’t develop.
How often should I feed?
Use sparingly as a treat; for regular live feeding, use mealworms and top up with waxworms.
Which birds love them most?
Robins, wrens, tits, blackbirds and thrushes.

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
