Product Overview:
The Plastia Bokashi Composter Kit provides an all-inclusive, easy-to-use solution for reducing food waste. Perfect for an average family of four, this system turns your kitchen scraps into rich compost, cutting down on landfill contributions and supporting a zero-waste lifestyle.

This Bokashi system not only fits neatly in your home but also reduces methane emissions, keeping food waste from landfills and minimising the environmental impact of waste transportation.

Key Features:Why Choose Bokashi Composting?:
Food waste is a massive environmental challenge in the UK, where over 6 million tonnes is produced. We are all taking action to reduce food waste but there’s always going to be some plate waste and veg peelings and more. Taking control of our own food scraps means we can rethink waste into a resource and using a Bokashi kit, an average family of four can easily deal with over a kilo of waste, drastically reducing what goes to landfill. The anaerobic fermentation process minimises methane emissions while providing a natural fertiliser to enrich your soil and plants.

The Science Behind Bokashi:
Bokashi composting relies on anaerobic bacteria in the bran to ferment food waste, eliminating the odour and speeding up decomposition. Dr Tereo Higa discovered a range of Effective Micro-organisms for dealing with this back in the 1980’s and our farm makes our own Bokashi Bran using his EM1 which means you have the very best way of actually fermenting your waste. It’s quick and it’s easy and this method prevents the methane produced in landfills and reduces the need for transporting food waste to central composting or anaerobic digestion facilities. It also keeps nutrients in your garden, supporting a healthy, natural cycle.

How It Works:
  1. Add Waste: Place your kitchen scraps, including meat and dairy, into the bucket.
  2. Sprinkle Wiggly Bokashi Bran: Bokashi bran made with EM1 aids in rapid fermentation.
  3. Compost Ready in 2 Weeks: The bin is a MicroBrewery for Soil rather than Beer and produces pre-compost, which can be buried in your garden or added to a compost pile. It does NOT look like compost at this stage but soon turns into soil when added to a raised bed or conventional composter
  4. Harvest Compost Tea: This liquid by-product nourishes plants and soil.
  5. Two Buckets for Good Reason: As you fill one Bokashi Bucket the other ferments which means the cycle is continuous and flexible. (It takes about 10 days to two weeks to fill a bucket and this is enough time for the full bucket to complete it’s fermentation).
Comparison with Traditional Composting: Traditional composting takes months and requires outdoor space. Bokashi is faster, works indoors, and can handle all types of food waste, making it ideal for modern, eco-conscious homes.Environmental Impact:
Bokashi composting cuts down on methane emissions, reduces the need for food waste transportation, and helps shrink your family’s carbon footprint. Traditional waste methods rely on centralized facilities or landfills, both of which contribute to greenhouse gases and require energy-intensive transportation. With Bokashi, you keep waste management local, turning it into a direct benefit for your garden.
