Home-Grown Spirit, British Fields — Mixed Fresh on Our Herefordshire Farm

A proper British blend — grown as close to home as possible, mixed right here on our regenerative farm, and designed to keep your garden birds healthy, happy and singing.

We can’t grow everything on our own land (yet) — some crops simply prefer different soils or climates. That’s why Phil’s friend Michael, an expert seed grower based in Cambridgeshire, grows the black sunflower seeds for this mix. Here in Herefordshire, we grow our own red wheat, and in 2026 we’ll be planting a field of our very own black sunflowers too.

Every handful of Farmer Phil’s British Mix supports UK farmers, reduces transport miles and carbon footprint, and delivers better value and fresher seed — because it hasn’t crossed half the world to reach your feeder.

Key Benefits

  • Grown & mixed in Britain – supports UK farmers and reduces transport miles

Who You’ll Attract
Farmer Phil’s British Mix is a magnet for sparrows, finches, tits, wrens, yellowhammers, siskins and other farmland favourites.
Because these seeds are grown in British soil, they’re already familiar to British birds — it’s literally food they’ve evolved to find and enjoy.

How to Feed Them

  • Perfect for seed feeders, tables, or ground feeding trays.
  • Top up little and often – birds prefer smaller, fresher feeds.
  • In cold weather, feed twice daily (morning & mid-afternoon).
  • Always provide a source of fresh water alongside feed.

Each Ingredient Plays Its Part

  • Red Wheat: Our own high-energy grain for ground feeders like sparrows and dunnocks.
  • Unrolled Oats: Soft and easy to eat; full of good fats for songbirds.
  • Black Sunflower Seeds: Grown by Michael in Cambridgeshire; full of high-oil energy for healthy feathers.
  • Rape Seed: Tiny, high-oil seeds for small-beaked birds.
  • Millet: Favoured by sparrows and buntings.
  • Linseed: Glossy-feather goodness – omega-rich for condition.
  • Canary Seed: Fine protein-rich seed for tits, finches, and wrens.
  • Oyster Grit: Helps birds digest seed efficiently and strengthens eggshells.

Wiggly Tips

  • Scatter a handful at dawn and dusk – the natural feeding times for most garden birds.
  • Mix with a little suet in winter for an extra energy boost.
  • If you notice pigeons hogging the lot, try offering it in a smaller-mesh feeder – little birds will thank you!

Our Regenerative Farm
Farmer Phil’s British Mix is blended and bagged at Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire, where farming works hand-in-hand with nature.
We use composts, Bokashi, and worms instead of fertiliser, plant wildflower margins, and graze cattle to restore soil life.
By working with growers like Michael in Cambridgeshire, we keep miles (and emissions) low while sharing the load between farms that care for their land.

Sustainability & Packaging
We make packaging part of the solution:

  • Small bags – plain paper, compostable, and easy to recycle.
  • 12.55 kg sacksreusable woven polypropylene, returnable for re-use.
  • No extra outer packaging – our tough woven sacks travel safely as they are.

Simple, sensible, sustainable — that’s the Wiggly way.

Wiggly Tip
Re-use your large sacks for garden waste or return them to us — it all helps cut waste and save resources.

Nature Benefits
When you feed birds with British-grown seed, you’re doing double duty — supporting biodiversity in your garden and helping keep farmland buzzing and singing across the UK.
Fewer imports mean lower emissions, and more birds mean fewer pests, better pollination, and richer soil life.

Good for You Too
There’s nothing like a cup of tea and the sound of the robin’s call to reset your day.
Birdwatching lowers stress and lifts your mood — and knowing your seed helps British farmers makes it even sweeter.

Wiggly Tip
In spring and early summer, keep feeders topped up — parents need easy calories for fledglings.
In winter, consistency matters more than quantity — your birds rely on you!

Storage & Freshness
Store in a cool, dry, sealed container.
Avoid damp sheds or warm conservatories — both encourage mites and moths.
Buy or subscribe little and often for maximum freshness.
Clean feeders weekly to prevent mould or disease.

Wiggly Tip: If seed clumps, it’s damp — spread it out on a tray to dry before re-using.

Quick FAQs
Will it sprout under my feeder?
Some seed may germinate — for zero-sprout, try our Huskless Mix.

Is it safe for fledglings?
Yes — small, soft seeds and added oyster grit make it easy for young birds to digest.

How long will it keep?
Cool and dry, several months — fresher is always better.

Pairs Perfectly With
A handful of live mealworms — the perfect protein boost, especially for robins and wrens during breeding season.
A Wiggly Seed Feeder — sturdy, easy to clean, and designed to keep seed flowing freely in all weathers.
And a few British Suet Balls — rich in fats and energy to keep garden birds going strong through cold snaps and busy nesting days.

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
