Restore minerals. Feed microbes. Lock away carbon. One handful at a time.

Feed your soil the way nature intended with Volcanic Rock Dust — a finely ground, mineral-rich soil conditioner that restores fertility and structure naturally.
Mined from ancient volcanic rock and milled to a fine powder, this sustainable soil booster delivers essential trace elements — calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, silica, and more — that modern soils often lack.

By sprinkling a little rock dust onto your soil, compost, or wormery, you’re recharging its energy, improving microbial life, and literally turning atmospheric carbon into fertile ground. It’s slow-release, chemical-free, and brilliantly simple — the same mineral process that built some of the world’s most productive soils, now available for your garden.

🌋 Rebuilds tired soils: Replaces lost minerals for long-term fertility and soil health.
🌱 Boosts biological life: Encourages beneficial microbes, fungi, and earthworms to thrive.
💧 Improves water retention: Adds porosity and structure to help soil hold moisture during dry spells.
🌾 Balances pH naturally: Gentle, alkaline buffering improves growing conditions for most plants.
♻️ Locks in carbon: Supports “enhanced weathering,” capturing atmospheric CO₂ as stable carbon in your soil.
🪱 Perfect for compost & wormeries: Safe and beneficial — supports worm digestion, balances acidity, and reduces odours.

In soil and raised beds: Sprinkle 50–250 g (a good handful) per m² over the surface and rake or mulch in. Repeat once a year for best results.
In compost or wormeries: Mix at roughly 10–20% by volume when building new layers. The rock dust stabilises pH, adds mineral balance, and helps reduce smells.
In pots or planters: Add a small handful per 10 L of compost to extend its lifespan and nutrient-holding capacity.
On lawns: Mix lightly into the top layer before watering — it’ll improve soil health and root density.

Wiggly Tip: Always apply when the soil is moist (not bone dry), then mulch or water in — this helps minerals integrate with microbes straight away.

At Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire, we’ve seen first-hand how adding minerals like rock dust transforms soil structure, water balance, and microbial life. We use it in our compost bays, worm systems, and field trials — and now we’re sharing the same ingredient with you.

This is pure, natural volcanic rock dust — no fillers, no chemicals, no gimmicks. Just good science and practical farming experience in every bag. When you add it to your soil, you’re doing what we do: closing the loop between waste, worms, and wellbeing.

Volcanic rock dust works because of enhanced weathering — a natural process where silicate minerals react with carbon dioxide in the presence of moisture and microbes, locking carbon into the soil as bicarbonates.
At the same time, the rock dust releases essential minerals slowly over years, not weeks, feeding plants and microbes alike.

Scientifically proven benefits include:

  • Up to 20–30% improved water retention.
  • Faster root development thanks to increased silica and calcium availability.
  • Reduced nutrient leaching — the porous particles trap nitrates and potassium.
  • Improved soil pH stability — particularly beneficial in acidic soils.
  • Carbon capture — turning CO₂ into stable soil carbon through weathering.

It’s soil regeneration in action — small effort, massive long-term impact.

Keep it working:
Apply yearly or after heavy rains; always mix with organic matter or mulch; store dry. Rock dust lasts indefinitely — its effects build over time.

FAQs
Is it safe for worms?
Yes — worms love mineral diversity; it helps their digestion and reproduction.
Can I overdo it?
Not easily. It’s inert and slow-release, but moderation saves effort — more frequent light doses are better than heaps.
Will it help clay soils?
Yes — it opens heavy soils and improves drainage.
Will it help sandy soils?
Definitely — it helps them retain nutrients and moisture.
Can I use it in no-dig gardens?
Perfectly suited. Just sprinkle and mulch — nature will do the mixing.

Wiggly Tips:

  • Mix a handful into your compost before adding Bokashi waste.
  • Add to worm bedding for stronger, healthier worms.
  • Use with Biochar for a perfect mineral–microbe partnership.
  • Combine with Woolch to build moisture-retentive, living beds.
  • One small bag a year will keep your soil on top form.

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!
