What is Rock Dust?
Rock Dust, or volcanic rock dust, is a finely milled natural mineral fertiliser derived from volcanic rocks. It is packed with essential nutrients and trace elements that benefit your wormery, compost, and soil. Approved by the Soil Association for organic use, it’s a completely natural way to enrich your gardening ecosystem, ensuring long-term fertility and productivity.

Whether you're maintaining a wormery, improving your compost, or nurturing your garden soil, Rock Dust works to enhance microbial activity, promote healthy plants, and support sustainable growing practices.

Why Use Rock Dust?

For Your Wormery

  • Improves Worm Health: Rock Dust’s mineral-rich composition supports worm digestion and vitality, helping them break down organic matter more efficiently.

  • Balances Wormery Conditions: It absorbs excess moisture, reduces odours, and stabilises pH, creating the perfect environment for your worms to thrive.

  • Attracts Worms Naturally: Sprinkle a small amount in one area, and worms will instinctively gather, thanks to the nutrients they crave.

  • Boosts Worm Productivity: Healthy, active worms produce richer, higher-quality compost for your garden.

For Soil and Compost

  • Re-mineralises Soil: Enriches depleted soils with essential minerals and trace elements, improving soil fertility and plant nutrition.

  • Encourages Earthworm Action: Earthworms draw Rock Dust deeper into the soil, releasing nutrients gradually and naturally enhancing soil structure.

  • Improves Crop Resilience: Promotes healthier, more abundant plants with increased resistance to pests, diseases, and drought.

  • Enhances Compost: Speeds up decomposition, reduces odours, and ensures the final compost is nutrient-rich and ready to invigorate your soil.

Key Applications

  • All-Year Use: Beneficial to apply throughout the year, except when the ground is frozen or in windy conditions.

  • Gardens: Perfect for vegetable patches, flower beds, and lawns to encourage healthier growth and stronger plants.

  • Compost Heaps: Mix with organic waste to boost microbial activity and create nutrient-dense compost.

  • Wormeries: Add monthly to support worm health and maintain optimal conditions.

How to Use Rock Dust

  1. In Your Wormery: Sprinkle a small handful (approx. 50g) per 30cm² onto the surface of your wormery once a month. Observe as worms gather to feed on the nutrients!

  2. In Compost: Add to your compost heap or bin to accelerate breakdown and enhance nutrient levels in the finished compost.

  3. In Soil: Spread 100–200g per square metre evenly across your garden beds or mix into potting soil.

  4. For Crops: Apply as a top dressing around growing plants or mix into the soil before planting for nutrient-rich growing conditions.

Nutritional Profile

Rock Dust is rich in naturally occurring nutrients, including:

  • Macro Nutrients: Sodium (Na), Magnesium (Mg), Phosphorus (P), Calcium (Ca), Sulphur (S), Silicon (Si).

  • Micro Nutrients: Iron (Fe), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Manganese (Mn), Molybdenum (Mo), Boron (B), Selenium (Se), and more.

These essential minerals improve soil fertility and enhance the natural processes that support healthy ecosystems.

Additional Benefits

  • Improves Soil Structure: Enhances aeration, water retention, and drainage, reducing soil compaction.

  • Promotes Microbial Activity: Encourages beneficial microbes that support nutrient cycling and plant health.

  • Boosts Long-Term Fertility: Rock Dust’s slow-release minerals enrich soil over time, reducing the need for synthetic fertilisers.

Important Notes:

  • Not suitable for human consumption.

  • Avoid application in windy conditions.

  • Store in a cool, dry place, under cover.

Pro Tip: Regular use of Rock Dust enhances the natural relationship between earthworms, soil microbes, and plants. Earthworm activity helps integrate the Rock Dust into the soil, ensuring nutrients are effectively distributed and released over time.

Transform your wormery, enrich your compost, and cultivate healthier, more resilient crops with Rock Dust – the natural solution for thriving gardens and sustainable growing.
