Our Wiggly Coir Blocks are the perfect starting point for healthy wormeries, seed trays, and peat-free compost.
Made from compressed coconut fibres (coir), these dry, pleasant-to-handle blocks expand into a soft, rich growing medium once soaked in water — producing around 9 litres of high-quality, sustainable compost base.

Whether you’re setting up a new wormery, mixing worm casts into potting compost, or growing seeds without peat, coir gives your soil structure, air, and life — without harming the planet.

🌍 100% Peat-Free: Sustainable coconut fibre — a renewable by-product of the coconut industry.
💧 Expands Instantly: Just add water — each block makes around 9 litres of compost.
🐛 Perfect Worm Bedding: Ideal for starting new wormeries or refreshing old ones.
🌿 Improves Compost Structure: Adds air spaces and balances moisture in worm casts and homemade compost.
🪴 Versatile & Safe: Excellent for seed starting, potting mixes, and houseplants.
♻️ Clean & Easy: Lightweight, odour-free, and simple to store.

  1. Rehydrate: Place your coir block in a bucket or trug. Add around 3–4 litres of warm water per block.
  2. Wait 10 minutes: The block will swell into a soft, crumbly compost.
  3. Fluff it up: Break apart any dense patches to create a light, even texture.
  4. Use as needed: Perfect for worm bedding, seed sowing, or mixing into garden compost.

Wiggly Tip: You can speed things up by using warm water and stirring halfway through the soak.

At Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire, we’ve used coir for decades as a clean, peat-free base for wormeries and composting. It’s gentle on worms, safe for seedlings, and perfect for balancing the nutrient-rich castings produced on the farm.

When you buy Wiggly Coir Blocks, you’re not just buying a compost base — you’re backing regenerative British farming that feeds soil life, not landfill.

For Potting Compost (general use):

  • 2 parts coir
  • 1 part worm casts
  • Optional: handful of sharp sand or grit for drainage

For Seed Compost:

  • 3 parts coir
  • 1 part worm casts
  • Mix thoroughly and sieve for a fine, even texture
  • Perfect for trays, plugs, or propagation

For Top-Dressing Plants:

  • 1 part coir
  • 1 part finished compost or worm casts
  • Sprinkle a 1–2 cm layer on top of pots or beds to retain moisture and feed microbes

Coir + worm casts = the perfect balance of structure + life. The coir aerates and holds moisture; the worm casts deliver nutrients, beneficial microbes, and natural growth hormones.

Wiggly Tip: Worm casts alone can be too rich for seedlings — mixing with coir dilutes and balances the biology.

🌿 Mulch: Keeps soil moist, suppresses weeds, and improves texture over time.
🪴 Houseplants: Add to indoor plant soil for better drainage and aeration.
🐛 Compost Booster: Lightens heavy compost heaps and speeds up decomposition.
🌾 Seedling Support: Ideal for rooting cuttings and growing microgreens.

Alternatives like Wiggly Woolch (raw wool mulch) or leaf mould also complement coir, adding structure, nutrients, and soil carbon — perfect for gardeners who want to go fully peat-free.

Why Worms & Coir Are a Perfect Match

Worms love the texture and moisture of coir — it’s gentle on their skin and full of air pockets. When mixed into their bedding, it prevents compaction, reduces odours, and encourages even feeding.
Combined with our Rock Dust or Lime Mix, it creates the ideal living environment for composting worms to thrive and multiply.

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
