The 180 litre Compost Tumbler by Maze transforms leftover waste and garden refuse into a rich, nutrient-dense compost with next to no effort at all. The Tumbler's two compartments enable continuous composting...

When the first compartment is full, you start on the second. Once this side is full the first side is ready to empty, and the cycle continues.

The strongly reinforced barrel has been UV protected and contains multiple air vents to promote aerobic decomposition. The large opening and sliding doors allow for the easy addition of waste and collection of ready compost.

A  unique feature is a gear and handle, which ensures easier turning of the drum: the geared ratchet will automatically lock rotation in any position.

The frame is zinc-coated steel and its open-front design means finished compost can be easily collected from the barrel with plenty of room for a compost cart or bucket to slide in underneath. By rotating the door to face down you are able to slide the door open and let the compost fall into the cart.

Also Recommended: our bundle with a 12.5kg bag of Complete Rot for Grass -  a composting solution designed to facilitate the easy decomposition of grass clippings. Crafted from restructured organic waste material, this product harnesses the power of natural enzymes and abundant free carbon. Its purpose is to counterbalance the excessive nitrogen levels that typically hinder the composting process of grass clippings.

Made from 90% recycled plastic.

Five-year guarantee.

FAQs for Using a Garden Compost Tumbler

1. What is a garden compost tumbler? A garden compost tumbler is a cylindrical container designed to efficiently compost organic materials. It features a rotating mechanism that allows you to turn the compost easily, aiding in aeration and decomposition.

2. How does a compost tumbler work? Compost tumblers work by providing an enclosed environment for composting organic materials. As you add materials to the tumbler, you can rotate it regularly to mix the contents, which promotes aeration and speeds up the composting process.

3. What are the benefits of using a compost tumbler? Using a compost tumbler offers several advantages:

  • Convenience: Tumblers make it easy to turn and aerate the compost without manual labor.

  • Faster composting: The enclosed design and frequent turning create optimal conditions for faster decomposition.

  • Pest control: Tumblers help deter pests like rodents and insects, keeping compost contained and clean.

4. What materials can I compost in a garden compost tumbler? You can compost a variety of organic materials, including:

  • Kitchen scraps: Fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, eggshells.

  • Yard waste: Grass clippings, leaves, small branches, and twigs.

  • Shredded paper and cardboard.

5. What materials should be avoided in a compost tumbler? Avoid adding materials such as meat, dairy, oily foods, and pet waste to a compost tumbler, as they can attract pests and create odors. Additionally, avoid composting materials treated with chemicals or pesticides.

6. How do I start composting in a garden compost tumbler? To start composting in a tumbler, begin by adding a mix of green (nitrogen-rich) and brown (carbon-rich) materials in a balanced ratio. Moisten the materials as you add them to ensure proper decomposition. Then, close the tumbler and start rotating it regularly to mix the contents.

7. How often should I turn the compost tumbler? For optimal composting, aim to turn the tumbler every two to three days to aerate the materials and promote even decomposition. However, you can adjust the frequency based on factors like temperature, moisture levels, and the stage of decomposition.

8. How long does it take to produce compost in a garden compost tumbler? Composting in a tumbler typically produces finished compost in about 4 to 8 weeks, depending on factors such as the type of materials used, ambient temperature, and how frequently you turn the tumbler.

9. How do I know when the compost is ready? Finished compost in a tumbler will have a dark, crumbly texture and an earthy smell. It should no longer resemble the original materials used. You can also use a compost thermometer to ensure that the temperature has stabilised, indicating that the composting process is complete.

10. How do I use the finished compost? Once the compost is ready, you can use it to enrich soil in your garden, flower beds, or potted plants. Simply spread the compost evenly over the soil surface or mix it into the existing soil to improve its nutrient content and overall health.

Using a garden compost tumbler is a simple and effective way to turn kitchen and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost for your garden, helping to reduce waste and improve soil fertility.
